OUR FIGHT
WHO WE ARE
Melanated Youth is BI&POC youth-led coalition that was founded after a Black Lives Matter protest, as a beacon for youth activist support in Southern California. We are set out to build up our community, especially ones most marginalized. Our coalition began in September of 2020, after being established by the co-founders, Ahsha Jones and Chloe Serrano. At that time, we had around only nine board members, dispersed between several counties. But now we have expanded into an entire grassroots coalition with over thirty volunteers around SoCal.
WHAT WE ARE ABOUT
Melanated Youth is centered around fighting for the liberation of those who are systematically disadvantaged, by way of building resources based around communal solidarity. We are a coalition that is adversed to capitalism and imperialism, so our efforts actively go towards not embodying those practices, but instead provide ways to dismantle that oppression. We strive to find solutions that will benefit the survival of marginalized identities.
WHAT WE
ARE DOING
In order to help our community and service resources to our neighbors, Melanated Youth has been able to host events such as webinars, protests, and mutual aid. All of these events have provided a safe space for all of us to come together in order to provide support for one another. We are not allowing for passive involvement in our mission, that way our work actually liberates all of us.
